Weinberg Faculty Honored by American Mathematical Society
The American Mathematical Society on Nov. 1, 2012 named 11 current and emeriti Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences math professors to its inaugural class of fellows.
The prestigious designation recognizes “members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics.”
The new Fellows of the American Mathematical Society include seven current members of the Weinberg College faculty:
Emeriti faculty fellows include:
- Eric Friedlander
- Mark Mahowald
- Stewart Priddy
- Donald Saari
The professors are among more than 1,100 fellows representing more than 600 institutions around the world.
In creating the honor, the society seeks to broaden the class of mathematicians recognized for their contributions to the profession, and to support their advancement to leadership positions. Fellows will present the “public face” of excellence in the field and advise the Society on public matters. Back to top
