Arch Scholars

Arch Scholars is a suite of free-standing but overlapping programs designed to welcome, engage, and support students who attended high schools with little or no AP/IB preparation or who are among the first in their families to attend college.
Some students become Arch Scholars in the summer before their first-year by participating in either Bio&ChemEXCEL or Bridge. Others join the Arch family in the fall of their first-year either by being admitted to the NU Bioscientist program or joining the Arch Scholars Peer Mentoring community. Still others come on board as rising sophomores in the Posner Research Program or Bridge II. Whenever and however they join us, Arch Scholars forge lasting friendships and develop skills necessary for success at Northwestern and beyond. There is a common application for all our programs - click here to apply!
Note: In order to provide a safe and equitable experience for our students, Bio&ChemEXCEL and Bridge will be remote-learning programs for the summer of 2020.
- Bio&ChemEXCEL (June 28 - August 1, 2020) is a pre-orientation program for admitted Weinberg students thinking about STEM disciplines such as biology, chemistry, or neuroscience, especially if they're interested in learning more about science research here at Northwestern.
- Bridge (August 9 - September 11, 2020) is a pre-orientation program for Weinberg and Medill students interested in any discipline, including the sciences, economics, social sciences, humanities, or journalism.
- NU Bioscientist is a two-quarter program that runs during the first-year for Weinberg students interested in performing research in the biological, biomedical, chemical, neurobiological, or cognitive sciences. Even if you have never conducted research before, you are encouraged to apply.
- The Arch Scholars Peer Mentoring Program pairs first-generation and lower-income students - whether or not they have participated in other Arch Scholar programs - with undergraduate mentors who are eager to help them learn the ropes and successfully navigate their first-year. Mentors and mentees meet weekly throughout the school year.
- The Posner Research Program (June 21 - August 15, 2020) enables rising sophomores to conduct research under faculty guidance during the summer after their first-year.
- Bridge II (August 23-September 11, 2020) is open to rising sophomores intending to enroll in organic chemistry.
Former participants of our programs are encouraged to return as student leaders. You can be an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow for the summer programs, a NU Bioscientist Peer Mentor, or an Arch Scholars Peer Mentor. Contact Dr. Luke Flores for more details on how to get involved.
