Why did you decide to participate in Arch?
As a FGLI student coming into a prestigious competitive university such as Northwestern, I knew I wasn’t on the same playing field as every student on campus. In addition to coming from Mississippi, where the education system is quite lacking, I knew I was also behind students in terms of introductory course knowledge and content. I was given the opportunity to become a part of different programs such as BioChemExcel, Bridge 2, etc and it has tremendously benefited me. Through these program, I was able to discover numerous opportunities and resources throughout campus from SES to HPA, as well as meet faculty, who have played a role in my experience at Northwestern. Besides academics, I was also introduced to a community of students and peers who may have come from similar situations and backgrounds as myself, a community in which I felt accepted without judgment, some of which I am still close with to this day. The counselors really served as role models and advisors, not only helping in course work, but also giving advice when needed, being vulnerable about their experiences and backgrounds, and overall creating a welcoming, accepting environment.

What is one of your favorite memories from Arch?
My favorite memory from Arch programs would be the first day of the different programs I participated in. I was coming in super nervous with so many worries in my head such as how am I going to make friends, how would I know how to get around campus, etc, all while everyone is in the same boat. Looking back, I find it funny how I was worried about so many things and everything worked itself out. I loved forming new friendships with everyone from different backgrounds, learning new things, trying out new experiences with new friends, etc.

What are your plans after graduation?
Hopefully medical school.

What is your favorite class you've taken at Northwestern?
Neuroscience 320, Animal Behavior
