Non-Credit Internships
Students considering time away from Northwestern, for whatever reason, might look into pursuing a non-credit internship, either for pay or as a volunteer. This can be an especially good way to spend your summer break. The best on-campus source of information for non-credit internships is Northwestern Career Advancement.
Earning academic credit
Weinberg College awards academic credit only for internships with academic content offered by a Weinberg department or program and approved by the Curricular Review Committee. Find approved for-credit internships.
Sometimes a student hopes to do a non-credit internship and is told by the sponsoring organization that he or she can’t do the internship unless the school gives academic credit for it.
- If this happens to you, then contact your Weinberg College Adviser to talk about options.
- One possibility: you may be able to register for the special non-credit internship course GEN LA 114 (General Liberal Arts 114), and the sponsoring organization can be sent an explanation of College policy on internships and of the Gen LA 114 registration. Please note that this option is only available during the summer, and only for students whose home school is Weinberg.
