Understanding Funding Types

There are three general categories of funding for graduate student research.

Internal Funding from The Graduate School (TGS):

• Apply for a TGS Grants and Fellowships
• Work in an Interdisciplinary Graduate Assistantships or Service Opportunities

External Fellowships:

• Apply for fellowships through the  Office of Fellowships.

External Research Grants:

• Apply through Weinberg Research Administration. Find your Weinberg Research Administrator.

Weinberg Research Administration

The Weinberg Research Administration Office assists both faculty and graduate students with preparing research grant proposals to both federal agencies (NIH, NSF) and foundations. The actual submission of grant proposals is done by the Office for Sponsored Research (OSR). Your Research Administrator will take care of the administrative aspects of grant proposal submission, and also will work with OSR on submission.  If you are a Weinberg graduate student intending to submit a proposal, please be sure to  contact your department’s Research Administrator (RA) at least 6 weeks before the sponsor deadline.
