Academic Salary Recovery
The Provost has announced that charges to sponsored projects for faculty fringe benefits that accompany faculty academic year salary will be returned in full to the PI under the following conditions:
- Earning the fringe return is dependent on "maximum" department utilization of the direct charge methodology.
Administrators must "direct charge" the salary to sponsored project in the myHR Reporting system. - Faculty who recover academic year salary from sponsored projects as a significant percentage of their salary (75% and up) are required to continue to use the SDA paper process as directed by NU Payroll.
This is because a 9 month faculty salary is paid over 12 months, hence only 75% of the salary is available to charge in an academic month. These faculty members will qualify for the fringe recovery provided their Department's participation meets the goal.
The transfer of fringe and released funds back to the school (and eventually to the PI) will occur in one lump sum at the end of the fiscal year to easily accommodate changes throughout the fiscal year.
