Approval Guidelines: Post Spring 2023 Curriculum
Both new and existing courses can be considered for the degree requirements that go into effect for students who matriculate after spring quarter of 2023. However certain courses are not eligible for the US and Global perspectives on power, justice and equity, 6 foundational disciplines, or advanced expression requirements. Courses not eligible include:
- Independent study courses
- College seminars (or equivalent non-Weinberg versions)
- First-year writing seminars
- Professional linkage seminars
- Topics courses where content does not always align with the learning objectives of a particular requirement
- Lower-level language courses leading to satisfaction of the requirement for proficiency in a language other than English
- Senior thesis seminars are eligible for the advanced expression requirement but not foundational disciplines or overlays.
Determining the appropriate requirement area(s)
The Curriculum Review Committee will assess the alignment of the course with the learning objectives of the requirement area(s):
- FD-Natural Sciences
- FD-Empirical and Deductive Reasoning
- FD-Social and Behavioral Sciences
- FD-Historical Studies
- FD-Ethical and Evaluative Thinking
- FD-Literature and Arts
- Overlay 1: US Perspectives on Power, Justice, and Equity
- Overlay 2: Global Perspectives on Power, Justice, and Equity
- Advanced Expression
If a course is approved for both a foundational discipline and an overlay, or a foundational discipline and the advanced expression requirement, a student may apply that course towards both of these requirements at the same time. A student may not apply a single course towards more than one foundational discipline area (i.e. that course may not double-count, the student must opt for one foundational area or the other).
