Weinberg Magazine Wins Grand Gold
The redesigned magazine takes the top prize in the international CASE competition
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education has named Weinberg College at Northwestern University a grand gold award winner in its international 2015 Circle of Excellence awards program.
Weinberg College was recognized for its magazine, Weinberg, a twice-yearly publication for alumni, faculty, staff, friends and parents of current Weinberg College students. The magazine, which formerly published under the name Crosscurrents, was redesigned in 2013 after extensive input from the Weinberg College community.
A panel of experts awarded Weinberg the top prize in the magazine publishing improvement category from among 36 entries worldwide. Runners-up in the category included the Georgia Institute of Technology (which won the gold medal), Aiglon College in Switzerland (winner of the silver) and Haverford College (winner of the bronze).
In awarding the prize, the judges praised the magazine's "modern, appealing design," "interesting stories" and "great covers."
"This magazine's purpose is to emphasize the strength and value of a liberal arts education, and the redesign demonstrates that very mission in an excellent and tangible way," the judges added. "[It is a] clean, engaging, beautiful magazine."
The award is the latest in a series of honors for the magazine, which also won the gold medal for best specialized or unit-level magazine from CASE District V in December and a 2014 Award of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association. The publication is produced by the Weinberg College Office of Marketing and Communications.
In 2015, more than 720 higher education institutions, independent schools and nonprofits worldwide submitted more than 3,200 entries for consideration in nearly 100 categories. Judges gave 307 awards: 17 grand gold, 91 gold, 106 silver and 93 bronze.
