Fun In the Summer
The College's Staff Advisory Board hosts a full slate of summer events
Throughout the summer of 2015, the Weinberg Staff Advisory Board has been organizing community-building events for fellow staff in an effort to get us out from behind our desks, meet a broader cross-section of our peers, place names with faces, and explore our beautiful Northwestern campus.
In addition to weekly lunchtime walks, the SAB has collaborated with Northwestern University archivists and architects to offer tours geared specifically for Weinberg staff members. University Archivist Kevin Leonard led a tour of the south campus in May and a tour of the north campus in June, sharing his sense of humor and his historical knowledge of how our campus has evolved. The latter tour also included a stop at The Garage, the new entrepreneurial and innovation space that will house students, mentors, faculty and partners as they work together to build that next big idea.
In August, Facilities Management representatives Stephen Camburn, Nigel Chesters and Timothy Spahn led a group of Weinberg College staff around several south-campus gardens and the sites of gardens-to-be. The tour included stops at Harris Hall, the new music building, the student-run Wild Roots vegetable garden near Norris University Center, and the 100-year old Shakespeare Garden, which is maintained by the Evanston Garden Club.
Fall events planned
As the fall quarter nears, the SAB is busy planning more events, including a welcome luncheon for our new dean, Adrian Randolph, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 12 to 2 p.m. Be sure to save the date, and keep an eye out for our email updates!
