PhilFest Celebrates Honors Work in Philosophy
Students take on variety of topics at philosophy showcase
Northwestern University’s Department of Philosophy will host its 5th annual PhilFest on Wednesday, April 16th from 6:00 to 8:30pm in Annie May Swift Hall, Peggy Dow Helmerich Auditorium, 1920 Campus Drive in Evanston, Ill.
The department will feature lectures from four senior honors students speaking on various philosophical topics, ranging from “Wittgenstein’s Metaphilosophy” to ethical issues arising from human-made climate change. A question-and-answer session will follow along with a reception.
PhilFest allows graduating seniors the opportunity to present and discuss their work before their peers, professors and graduate advisors in a conference-like setting. The event provides students with the experience to lecture and defend their research as proper members of the academic community. It is a successful event that highlights the best undergraduate research done at the Department of Philosophy.
Following an innovative outreach initiative, the department is delighted to report that this year, students of the Philosophy Club at Maine West High School will be participating. They will observe the presentations and see firsthand the lively philosophical discussions generated from the talks, and afterwards have an opportunity to interact personally with real-life researchers and students at the reception.
The event is free and open to the public, and the department welcomes interested visitors on this anniversary occasion.
