Graduate Check-In
Graduates will check-in at Trienens Hall at Welsh-Ryan Arena beginning at 2 p.m. to receive your name card (how our readers will call your name on stage). All students will receive a pre-printed name card, regardless of whether you filled it out in advance. Please arrive no later than 2:45 p.m. to ensure you are there in time for the start of the celebration.
All graduates will pass through metal detectors and graduates' robes must be unzipped while proceeding through security. Please give your backpacks, cameras, and other personal effects to a friend or family member for safekeeping. There are no lockers or storage facilities available.
Stage-crossing
Graduates will cross the stage and hear their name read as they are congratulated by the Dean. Professional photographs will be taken of each student on stage by Dynamic Photo Systems. You must register to view the photos, and you can submit your information on the Dynamic Photo Systems website. Questions can be directed to support@dynamicphotosystems.com.
Check Your Tickets and Transfer Tickets to Your Guests
Log into your Graduation Ticketing account to transfer tickets to your guests in advance of the ceremony. For transfer instructions please see the Tickets page of the Graduation Weekend website.
Please note the following:
- All tickets are general admission.
- All guests MUST have a ticket (except children under the age of 3).
- For security reasons, those without tickets will NOT be admitted into the venue.
- Additional tickets will NOT be available at Welsh-Ryan Arena on June 8.
Check Your Regalia
Check to make sure you have your regalia and it is correct. You must wear regalia to participate in the ceremony.
Regalia will only be available for pickup at the Norris Bookstore during the following times:
- Thursday, June 6: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Friday, June 7: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Saturday, June 8: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Transportation Information
Parking in the Welsh-Ryan Arena area will be limited. It is highly recommended that graduates and their guests take shuttles from the main campus early to avoid long wait times at shuttle stops. The University provides complimentary shuttle bus service between the main Evanston campus and Welsh-Ryan Arena. Shuttles will begin one hour prior to events and will conclude approximately one hour after the completion of convocations. Plan travel time accordingly - shuttles take longer with stops and traffic on this day. Parking on campus is open and free of charge to all guests during Convocation.
If you have guests with reserved Accessible Seating or Wheelchair seating tickets, you may drop them off for entry at Welsh-Ryan Arena and park in any of the general parking locations indicated on this parking map of Welsh-Ryan Arena.
More information on transportation and parking can be found on the Commencement website.
Security
Security measures will be in place for individual and community safety. You may encounter uniformed officers directing traffic, monitoring metal detectors at entrances, and checking bags. All guests will pass through magnetometers upon entry to the ceremonies, and all bags will be checked.
Prohibited items at all graduation venues include: air horns and other artificial noise makers, including instruments; animals (excluding service animals); balloons; banners; bottles and cans; cameras with detachable lenses; confetti of any kind; coolers; ski or non-medical masks (medical masks are permitted); fireworks; flags; flyers and handouts; glitter; laser pens or laser products of any type; outside food and beverage of any kind (alcoholic beverages included); poles and sticks; projectiles; selfie sticks; signs; tents; umbrellas (any size); weapons of any kind, including guns, knives, ammunition, explosives, pepper spray and mace; and anything else that would interfere with another guest's ability to see, hear and enjoy the ceremony.
Diplomas
Diplomas will not be available on June 8. Graduates will be given a diploma cover at the ceremony. Diplomas for June graduates will be mailed in August to the graduate's permanent address as it is listed in CAESAR. Please check CAESAR to ensure your permanent address is correct.
