Weinberg College has a large presence on the University’s Evanston campus, inhabiting all or part of many campus buildings.
In order to maintain our status as a top-tier destination for academics and research, and to keep pace with emerging fields and technologies, we are constantly upgrading and renovating our facilities. In addition to regular improvements across our portfolio of spaces, here is a list of some of the larger projects currently in progress, as well as a list of some that have been recently completed.
Current Projects:
- Jacobs Center Planning and design are complete for the full renovation of Jacobs Center, which will house Weinberg College departments as it transforms into a hub for social sciences. Some demolition has started as we wait for general construction to begin on this multi-year building-wide renovation.
- Mudd Library Major renovation to convert library space into first-class science research space primarily for laser-based science in the fields of Chemistry and Physics. The first floor is largely complete as researchers have begun working, while space on the upper floors is still in the planning stages. See more info on the Mudd project on the NU Facilities page, including a time-lapse video of contruction.
- Tech F Wing Renovation of several thousand square feet of Physics research space on multiple floors, both for new researchers and redistribution of existing lab space, plus a full remodel of an office suite for the new Center for Fundamental Physics. Multiple projects nearing completion on the ground and basement levels.
- Tech D Wing Complex renovation of over 10,000sf of high-tech laser research space for Chemistry labs, conducted in multiple phases to allow for continued research throughout the renovation. Two of four phases currently completed, with full completion expected for Summer 2018.
- Pancoe Hall Ongoing renovations of labs for Molecular Biology and Neurobiology researchers on the first and fourth floors of Pancoe, totaling over 3,000sf.
- Lunt Hall Remodel of second floor common rooms for both aesthetic and functional improvements. First major phase of work completed Winter 2018, with a second round of enhancements due by Summer 2018.
Recently Completed Projects:
- Kresge Hall Complete gut renovation of the building completed Fall 2016 and fully occupied by over 20 Weinberg College departments and programs by Summer 2017.
- Neuroscience Teaching Lab Renovation of a full lab module on the second floor of Hogan as the new laboratory home of the Neuroscience major.
- Tech/Hogan Loading Docks Major improvements completed for loading docks, first at Tech, then at Hogan, including the enclosure of the Hogan dock plus modernizations and efficiency upgrades at both sites.
- Tech K Wing Renovation of over 3,000sf of lab space to accommodate a new senior researcher in Chemistry.
- Pancoe/Silverman Hall Renovations to upgrade lab facilities for senior researcher in Neurobiology with space on the second floor of both Pancoe and Silverman Hall.
- Hogan Hall Renovation of over 1,000sf for an Earth and Planetary Sciences senior researcher on the fourth floor.
- Swift/Cresap Renovations of both lab suite and office space totaling over 1,500sf for two new Psychology researchers.
- Locy Hall Remodel, including furniture improvements, for 1,000sf supporting the Sociology graduate program.
