Fourth Annual Weinberg College Career Summit

This year, the annual Career Summit was a half-day conference held virtually via Zoom. The event featured a skills-building session with NCA, a keynote address, multiple industry clusters with alumni, and a student-alumni networking session. The program emphasized the career exploration process so it was geared towards sophomores, juniors, and interested seniors.

Skills-Building Session
Facilitated by Northwestern Career Advancement Advisers and Counselors.
- Networking & Telling Your Story - Part presentation and part workshop, students were be able to identify their unique skills, practice articulating their skills through professional narratives, and learn how to communicate with others to build their professional network.

Keynote Address
Our keynote speaker was Samir Mayekar '06, '13 MBA:
Before he became the Deputy Mayor for Economic and Neighborhood Development in Chicago, Mayekar was a tech entrepreneur. As an MBA student at Kellogg, he led a team that took battery technology research from professor Harold Kung’s lab to market. He was CEO of startup NanoGraf Technologies until his appointment to the deputy mayor’s job. Mayekar has moved between startups and politics since earning a bachelor’s degree in political science in 2006, including a stint in the Obama White House.
Student-Alumni Networking Session
Students and alumni concluded the day by casually connecting over different topics (like how to network during the global health crisis or how to decide what to declare as your major) within Zoom breakout rooms.
