Teaching Faculty Visa-Processing Guide


The Weinberg College Dean’s office facilitates the visa process for all departments and programs listed to the right. Departments and programs not listed are facilitated by the departmental administrative staff of the faculty member’s home department.

Visiting faculty members typically require one of two types of sponsorship:

However, each circumstance is individualized and one’s particular case and visa must be discussed in consultation with the Dean’s Office and the Office of International Students and Scholars.


  1. Candidate accepts position by submitting signed acceptance documentation to the Dean's Office.
  2. Per offer letter, new candidate is responsible for contacting the Weinberg College Dean's Office or department about their visa as early as possible. Department is responsible for contacting the Dean's Office about renewals/extensions for employees whose visas have previously not been processed through the Dean's Office.
  3. The Dean's Office & Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) will determine the visa type needed and solicit required materials from faculty beneficiary and department administrators. 
  4. The Dean's Office collects information from incoming faculty and department and prepares requisite forms.
  5. The Dean's Office compiles approvals and sends completed form to department for signature(s) as needed.
  6. The Dean's Office submits visa request packet to the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.
  7. The Dean's Office & OISS communicate status/updates with department and faculty member until visa process is complete.
