Teaching and Research Resources
Weinberg College IT Solutions (WITS) serves as your consultant and facilitator for access to technology services related to teaching and research. Northwestern IT's Research Computing Services and Teaching and Learning Technologies directly provides many of those services, including educational project consultation and support; digital media (video, audio, and images) production services; educational software development; faculty training; and development of new technologies. Teaching resources
- Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) that allows Northwestern instructors and students to deliver course materials, submit assignments and tests, view grades, and create learning activities.
- Active Learning Environments are technology-enhanced classrooms that foster opportunities for teaching and learning by integrating learning technology, such as computers, specialized software, audience response technology, networking, and audio/visual capabilities.
- Contact your department when the teaching schedule is being arranged and request a smart classroom. About a week before the first class, call the Registrar (1-5234) to pick up a key for the classroom podium and visit the classroom to familiarize yourself with the room's equipment.
- The Media and Design Studio (formerly known as the MMLC) offers a wide variety of services to supported Weinberg College faculty. They provide teaching labs and classrooms, digital equipment, training and workflow suggestions to you and your students. enable you to stream media to your students. Finally, we develop resources for online learning and scholarship. Reservations can be made by emailing mads-rooms@northwestern.edu.
- Weinberg College has a College-wide license for Crowdmark, a collaborative grading software that integrates with Canvas. Learn more about using Crowdmark in your courses.
Research resources
- Research Data Storage Service is a high-capacity desktop-mountable storage service for sharing among collaborators at Northwestern. The storage system allows the account owner to manage permissions and access with no IT intervention required.
- Quest is a high-performance computing cluster provided by NUIT to support large-scale research computing tasks.
- NUworkspace offers users a Windows virtual desktop with a suite of software applications for University work. Its purpose is to provide eligible faculty, students, and staff with access to programs that may not be readily available on their current desktop/laptop computers.
- Qualtrics Research Suite (online surveys) is a cloud-based service which provides a comprehensive suite of tools to create web surveys and analyze collected data. Qualtrics has been licensed by the College and unlimited access is available at no cost to all Weinberg faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
- LabVIEW is a National Instruments system-design platform and development environment for the “G” visual programming language. Northwestern has negotiated a campus-wide site license for LabVIEW with the guidelines below.
