About Weinberg College IT Solutions

Weinberg IT Solutions (WITS) is a service unit within Dean’s Office of Weinberg College that promotes the use of technology to further academic, research, and administrative goals and initiatives. WITS is comprised of four main areas: Functional Solutions, Technical Solutions, Platforms, and the Media and Design Studio (MADS). 

Functional Solutions

The Functional Solutions team is responsible for improving business processes and workflows through the design, implementation, support, and enhancement of enterprise, custom, vendor, and no-code / low-code applications. Areas of expertise include providing technical consulting; developing best practices for critical business systems and data from central systems of record; and building solutions with Smartsheet, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Power Platform applications, DocuSign, Qualtrics, and more. 

Technical Solutions

The Technical Solutions team develops custom applications that improve staff processes and support the faculty and student lifecycle. Key development projects include Dossier, which facilitates first-year seminar selection and advising; Student Awards, which tracks prizes and awards for Weinberg students; Honors, which tracks the status of students’ honors projects; and Faculty Roster, which feeds Faculty Folio, the faculty data system for many schools at Northwestern. 

Platforms

The Platforms team is responsible for the systems that support application development, web infrastructure, and other technology required for teaching, research, and administrative needs. Key areas include implementing and monitoring cloud services, developing and maintaining data pipelines and storage facilities, and ensuring data security.  

Media and Design Studio

The Media and Design Studio (MADS) supports teaching and research across the humanities disciplines through a blend of customized spaces, expertise, and technology. MADS maintains a library of highly specialized audiovisual equipment for students and faculty, develops custom projects that highlight the humanities, and offers workshops and consultations to further online learning and scholarship.
