Coronavirus - Travel and Events

This email communication below was sent to Weinberg College faculty and staff on March 12, 2020.

Dear Weinberg College colleagues,

As was noted in the email from President Schapiro earlier this week, Northwestern University leadership is taking steps to ensure the safety of our community. As such, the University has issued guidelines to consider as you determine your events and travel planning for the immediate future and for longer term.

Please note: Beginning March 13, all travel from Europe to the U.S. by non-U.S. citizens (with the exception of the U.K.) is prohibited for 30 days.

I would like to thank the Weinberg College faculty and staff who have submitted their international travel plans to my office. At this time, I am expanding this request to include registration of domestic essential professional travel as well. If you deem your travel is essential, cannot be postponed, and is critical to your work, please complete this form.

Whether you are considering travel for professional or personal reasons, please continue to monitor the CDC’s guidelines.

All events scheduled on campus through April 15, 2020 should be postponed, cancelled, or held remotely, via Zoom or any of the other University-supported virtual meeting software.

At this time, we are including any gathering of more than 50 in this guideline. This includes any events or programming limited to internal audiences, and events for admissions, recruiting, and alumni.

Because of the uncertainty surrounding this situation, we are not requiring that events beyond April 15, 2020 be canceled now, but it is possible that these expectations will be extended into summer in the event the situation does not materially change.

For questions about expenses incurred for events that are cancelled, please see our FAQs. If you have questions about events or programming for groups of fewer than 50, please contact Fran Petty at [] or 847-467-4172. For smaller events and programming, please ensure the following:

I appreciate your continued cooperation and vigilance as we collectively work to minimize the impact of COVID-19 Coronavirus to our Northwestern community. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions.
